Heads Up Tourney

Its like 10:50pm last night and I'm just chilling watching some TV cuz Julie went to bed.  I see theres a heads up tourney starting at 11 o'clock and it only had like 80 players and the buy-in was like $20.  I thought what the hell, I'll play it since there isn't too many players and it will only take a couple hours max if I make it down to the end.  I go to the washroom and come back to my computer as my first match is about to start and I take a glance at the tourney lobby and see there are almost 400 entrants now!!  I was so spun.  I immediately didn't want to play anymore and tried to unregister but it was too late.  I usually get to bed to bed around 12:30-1ish and knew this would go way too long.  But whatever, I wasn't about to play like a donkey even if the buy-in was only 20 bucks. The way a heads up tournament works is that you play your match, if you win, you wait till the next round and play a new opponent.  So I breeze through my first match and then.... the waiting begins.. you have to wait till every match is finished till you can play your next match.  So if one match is going super slow the whole tournament has to wait.  I sat on my ass for a half hour waiting to play again and I was slowly starting to tilt.  My next match I play an absolute donkey, this guy was horrible.  If he would of beaten me I  probably would of thrown my laptop off my balcony.  But I end up crushing him in like 10 minutes and once again the waiting game began.  At this point its like 2am and my eyes are slowly closing.  I play 3 more matches and honestly I just pounded my opponents.  It helped that they all sucked, but I just wasn't making any mistakes and running well always helps to.  Between matches I was actually lying down taking power naps because I was dying.  There has only been a couple times in my life where I was in a situation where I couldn't stay awake for the life of me.. and this was one of them.  (The other was when Julie's parents took me and her to a musical and I just came off playing a 24 hour session, during the musical I actually fell asleep sitting in my chair and fell forward banging my head on the chair in front creating a big bang)  But I never like to throw away money and first place was about $2000 and there were only 16 players left so I got up and went on my balcony and got some fresh air to wake up for my quarter-final match.  The guy I played in this match was the only decent player I played the whole tournament.  And he was only decent.  This match went a lot longer then my others because he took a huge chip lead on me right off the bat.  At one point he the stacks were 2700 to 300 in his favor.  I wasn't really fazed though because I knew I could come back and win.  I doubled up a few times then finished him when he decided to limp in with Queens on the puck and I flopped the stones with 6,7 off suit on a 3,4,5 flop and crushed his hopes and dreams.  We are now down to 4 players of of the original 400 and guaranteed like 500 bucks or so.  At this point in my mind there was no way I was going to let myself lose this tournament.  It was like 4am, I was dying to go to sleep, I frankly didn't want to look at another hand, I had been playing all day and my brain was starting to hurt.  As I start my semi-final match, I'm happy to see my opponent is yet again another horrible player.  I think he actually even limp min raised me on the first hand and check/folded the flop.  We play for like 20 minutes and I can't make a hand.  My aggression pretty much kept me in the match.  Then this hand happened.  I opened my button with K,9 of diamonds and he snap calls.  The flop is Q,10,7, with Queen and Ten being diamonds.  This flop is pretty much the nuts for my hand giving me a straight flush draw and I don't see myself folding at any point.  I continuation bet the flop and he quickly check/raises me.  At this point I really just put him on a bare queen, making even just a ten like 10,J or some shit like that.  I tank for a second and jam the rest of my chips in and he snap calls me with Q,7offsuit.  Thats pretty gross and actually cuts down on my pair outs I thought I had.  The turn and river brick out and I lose to this bum and finish 4th.

This is the one major thing I don't miss about tournaments.. is getting soooooo deep and not winning.  You feel so unfulfilled.  When you lose a big pot in a cash game you just reload and move on.  But when you get knocked out deep in a tourney its just like a shot in the gut.  It usually puts me in a bad mood for a while and really bad for the mojo.  Anyways I was able to win a bit of money and finally get to go to bed.

And when I crawl into my comfortable bed, wrap myself in my blanket and close my eyes..... I now......CAN'T FUCKING SLEEP!
