Close one
Well the cards haven't been too much better since last blog, unfortunately the bad run continued in the FTOPS tourny's I've played in. Tonight was the closest I was to a big score. It was the $200 turbo holdem tournament with about 2500 entries and first place was 100k. I managed to stay afloat for the first few hours winning some small pots. I was able to squeak down to about 100 players when I lost this flip:
44 loses to J,9o
Losing that pot was pretty devastating to be honest. If I win that flip I'm top 10 in chips and could possibly make a good run into the final table. After losing this tournament I now remember why I quit them and became a cash game player. You get sooo close to a big score to only see it slip through your fingers, if I run good for about an hour I have a good chance to be $100,000 richer. Instead I lose a stupid flip for a small cash and go back to grinding.
I plan on playing a few more of these tournaments before this FTOPS ends, hopefully I can hit something big. Meanwhile I'm going to try and continue to get out of this funk. Yesterday I actually did something I don't usually do when I was studying my database. I took a look at some of the biggest winning regulars at my limit and analyzed how they are playing their big pots. And how I can take advantage of some of their leaks. I play so often that its inevitable to be playing other regulars from time to time, so hopefully I can gain more of an edge by go over their hands.
The long weekend is coming up and I plan on taking those days off and just chill. My head has been really wrapped into poker lately I think it needs a rest. A big mistake a lot of players make is play more when they are losing and less when they are winning. So I'm gong to try and follow that and take a breather.
Oh, and for those who are watching Poker After Dark this week and last, its been really good. If you are ever wondering how to absolutely abuse a fish at the table, watch how durrr is playing against Bob Safai. Isolating him every time he limps and 3 betting him non-stop in position to out playing him post flop.... its a beautiful thing to watch.
Alright I'm off to bed..
